Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, the warm glow of mulled wine and the cosiness of a winter jumper. Christmas is meant to conjure up a snug sense of bliss but for some people, it is not always the most wonderful time of the year. Many of us feel extra anxiety around Christmas due to its many pressures; there’s a turkey to cook, presents to buy and social obligations to attend!
As the year draws to a close it’s important not to forget to take care of ourselves in these winter months. Practicing self care will help you relax during difficult times, and getting involved in festivities whilst being realistic about your anxiety and comfort level will help minimise the stress surrounding the Christmas period.
We have produced this booklet to offer simple tips, distraction techniques, and activities for looking after yourself this Christmas, and to offer you the comfort that you are not alone. Everyone from the Anxiety UK staff and volunteer team has contributed to this workbook in some way with our tips and tricks, from suggestions for social anxiety to ways around financial concerns, we hope this free resource helps you to get through the season! We would like to wish you a happy, relaxing and safe Christmas, however you choose to spend it this year!
